Over the Top

Another weekend went by, and yes I drank a tad bit too much and had too much fun.... Oh well. The prospect of just being a nice little house mouse holds no interest for me anymore.

We went to Stephen's 30'th birthday part. It was particularly fun since Stephen always said he would never live to be 30. The clock catches us all in the end! I invited a few of my friends. I think everyone had a good time. Steph stayed sober and serious all night but I sure didn't. The party was great. Brynn did an amazing job setting the whole thing up.

I'm back to tutoring although I'm not entirely sure why. I do enjoy helping people and a few bucks on the side has been nice. Partially, it keeps me from wandering off track. With Steph gone most nights and Rachel and Devin all but grown, I have googles of alone time. Steph says I should join a rec league. Yeah Right! With spring, options should open up. I may seriously take up mountain biking. We shall see.

Well I'm off to finish my taxes. Oh what fun. I've been told that I cannot drink until the weekends... we'll see how that goes... ;-)

Long Weekend at the Motel

Well it has been an eventful and busy weekend at "Motel Irvin". We have had about 5 people here at all times. Cheyenne was "thrown out" by her dad, Devin was "thrown out" by his girlfriend, and Chantell is along for the ride. It's a good thing Steph went shopping this weekend because it has been an eating frenzy. Our house looks like we threw a massive party and no one bothered to clean up afterwards!

We have had fun though. On Saturday, we went to my buddy Tom's house and partied with some interesting east side folks. Last night we went to Sarah's house to watch football, although I don't think most of us cared about the game. It's good for Steph and I to expand our social network.

Rachel has been snowboarding every day (and some nights). She is gone again today. I guess the pass was a good present.

Today I would like to make some serious progress on the business plan. I have been working on it all morning. At a certain level, this all still feels like a giant pipe dream. I think it will only become real if and when the bank approves the loan. Wish me luck!

Bar, Bar, and More Bar!

All I can think about lately is the new bar idea. Things are starting to heat up. Yesterday, I scheduled an appointment with Zion's Bank to process my SBA loan. I will have to work with Bam on a business plan first. We also need to set up our LLC and obtain a business license. There are so many things to do that it is difficult to know where to begin. We are heading out to visit the location this morning and discuss things with Bam.

I had my last 2 tutor appointments for the semester last night. My students have finals on Monday. I sure hope they do well. It was a fun experience, but I think I'm going to have to stop tutoring so I can focus on this business plan.

Something funny happened yesterday. My old boss from Richmond American Homes came by the city office to meet with me about a possible business plan in Salt Lake. It was very odd to run into him like that. He hired me six years ago when I was desperately unemployed and always treated me great. I hope things work out for him. He is just an awesome person.

Steph has been ill forever and now she has a two day migrane. I feel bad for her (and me) since it makes it impossible for us to do anything fun together.

Better get ready to head out to South Jordan. This business idea will truly be a challange for me. I have the chance to apply everything I have learned towards something that can really pay off! And this time, it won't be for some stupid corporation that will throw me away as soon as the market turns.

Broken Old Man

Well, I've done it again. I just can't seem to accept my age. I went to the Sports Mall with Travis, Josh, and Kevin. They wanted me to teach them how to properly lift weights. I made the mistake of doing deadlifts. It never hurts while I'm doing them, but man do I pay in the morning. I'm hobbling around like an old man today! I wonder how the other guys are doing? They are all much smaller then me and we did spend 2 1/2 hours lifting. I'm sure they are feeling it.

My current injuries include: A pulled rear deltoid that makes it difficult to sleep, I gimpy ankle that prevents me from running, and now the back problem. I swear my body just wants to be old and out of shape! I guess I will only be able to go on a walk today.

Steph and I have a massive financial opportunity in front of us. We may be investing in a new bar down in South Jordan. Today I am focusing on how to obtain a business loan. I'm really excited as I am bored of our current situation. Back when I managed restaurants, my life seemed so much more exciting. I think this is just what we need to mix it up and hopefully make some serious money.

Steph and I are both sick. She is much worse off then I am. Last night we just watched a crappy movie called Far North. At the end, a lady cuts her daughters face off and puts it on in an attempt to imporsonate her. Yuck! Nothing like creepy movies before bed to help you sleep.

Rachel has been wallowing around the house with her boyfriend. They don't do anything besides fondle each other. I can't stand it! The boy appears to have no curfew and doesn't feel uncomfortable with touching my daughter right in front of me. What the hell? I never acted like that when I was a teenager. I have to find some things to keep that girl busy!

I'm off to research business loans. If this bar thing works out, my life could be very different in a few months. The opening is planned for July so we have our work cut out for us.

Make It Good

I've finally decided to start a blog! Everyone I know seems to have one, so I guess I'll join the crowd.

A little about me. I work for Salt Lake City as an Urban Planner. We live in Taylorsville, a suburb of Salt Lake City. I am married to Stephanie and we have two kids, Devin and Rachel (20 and 15). Steph works for Zions Bank and Devin is an electrician.

The biggest change this year is that I found Steph's biological father. He didn't even know Steph existed until now and has no other kids of his own. They have been cultivating a relationship and things are going well.

It's Thanksgiving once again. We will be hosting about 25 people in just a few short hours. Steph has been prepping food for the last few nights. I have been tutoring 3 nights in a row which takes a lot out of me. This year we are celebrating with the Peck side of the family. They are a good time, but I do miss my family. I have not even spoken to any of them in MONTHS! Oh well, that is how Irvin's are. We all feel hurt that no one calls us, but we never make take the first step ourselves.

Last week, I went to my brother-in-laws bar "The Point After" to watch the U of U/BYU game. We finally one! It's about time. Larry and Bill (Steph's step dad) even played pool together... Now that was weird.

I better get to work. This place is soon to be a mad-house. I wished more of my friends were coming over, but it should be a good time anyway.
